(audio warning)
At 8:45 this morning (01/08/2018) I found Murdoch, lying on her side in a nest of hay, looking as if she was sleeping. Her face looked calm, her eyes half-closed. Sadly, she was gone.
Words cannot describe how much I'll miss you Murdoch. How much your sisters miss you. How much I'll miss hearing nails scrabbling on the floorboards, finding out that you've walked all the way from the living room to the dining room by yourself. A feat the other guinea pigs have never done. How much I'll miss you following me around as I walked or running up to me when I called your name. You were by far the most intelligent, friendly guinea pig I could've ever hoped to know.
I remember when we tought you to stand up on your hind legs for a sbrig of coriander, how you spent the next couple of days standing on your hind legs whenever you felt like eating some coriander, even if we weren't holding any at the time.
I'm sorry you had to spend your last day being force-fed food in a syringe. But I hope you understand why. We held you all day, everyone pet you so much that the usually crazy fur on your nose and back had gone completely flat.
When you went, everyone cried. My mother, father and both my brothers. And me, of course. I hope you know how loved you are. That isn't going to end now.
Even if there isn't an afterlife for humans, I hope there's one for guinea pigs. I hope you're currently galloping along in a grassy field full of friends and things to explore. I hope you're happy.
Murdoch, I'll miss you so much. I'll never forget you.
